Užgavėnės is the Lithuanian traditional festival, that takes place during the seventh week before Easter. In this year it corresponded to the 24th of February. The culminate of the festival is to burn the doll named Morė, which is the symbol of winter. Morė in this year was made from ice at the Rotušė Square in Vilnius. It was very interesting to watch how to burn the ice doll.

One week ago I visited very interesting exhibition of Easter eggs by Marija Banikoviene in Vilnius. She is 80 years old. I was deeply impressed by her wonderful works.

Lithuanians call a naturally dyed and colored egg markutis. It symbolizes the rebirth of nature, the creation of life, the birth of plants and rejuvenation. Please enjoy beautiful eggs colored by the Lithuanian artist Marija Banikovienė.

There is a very curious old woman in Lithuania. Elena Augustaitiene is 71 years old and has been making dinosaur imitations from various bones of rodents, birds, poultry and domestic animals since 3 years ago.

One day when I visited my Lithuanian friend, I watched the Lithuanian map on the wall of his room and I was very surprised by names of the countries of Africa on the map. So I wondered why the Lithuanian map had them. My friend told me that the geographical form of Lithuania looks like the African continent.

In May 2007 I had good chance to travel by hot air balloon over lakes in Trakai. During the travel I saw the unbelievable scene, that the lake in Trakai is very similar to the Korean Peninsula. Please watch my video, and you will agree with me.

We are missing snow

It hardly snows this winter in Lithuania. My daughter often complains about the lack of snow. Especially white snow helps us forget gloomy feeling which is caused by the daytime sky with gray clouds.

This winter makes us more clearly convinced of the serious worldwide climate change. It can be really said that spring will not come after winter, but after fall.
